Term Explanation Examples
Aglet The end of the shoe lace that protects the strings from fraying. Amazon
Almond toe This is the most popular toe for shoes. It's not too pointed or too squared. It has a softly rounded, tapered shape. Amazon
Ankle wrap Shoe style with extra material that wraps around the ankle or leg. Amazon
Arch The area of the shoe between the ball and the heel. It has different shapes and can be high of flat. Amazon
Ball The area of a shoe sole between the toes and the curve. Amazon
Ballet flats A delicate, flat arch, closed toe shoe without any heel. Amazon
Block heel A thick heel on a shoe. Shoes with block heel are often very sturdy. Amazon
Boat shoe Soft shoes made of leather or canvas with rubber soles. They were originally made to use on a boat. Soles are made with a siping pattern to provide good grip on wet surfaces. The top of the shoe is ususally water repellant and very durable. Amazon
Boots A specific type of shoe that covers the entire foot and the ankle. Amazon
Booties A specific type of shoe that is low and covers the entire foot and the ankle. Amazon
Canvas A sturdy, thick cloth material. Amazon

Chunky Heel A heel that is thick and rectangular. Amazon

Column Heel A high heel that looks like a column Amazon
Combat Boots Sturdy, heavy boots. They were originally designed for the military to withstand all kinds of wheater. Amazon
Cowboy Boots Chunky mid-calf boot with a pointed toe and decorative elements. Amazon
Crepe Sole Light natural rubber sole Amazon
Crocodile Print Leather Leather that is printed to look like a crocodile skin. Amazon
Cross Training Sports shoe designed for all types of movement. Amazon
Cusion, Cushioning Shoe cushioning are extra layers added to the shoe sole part for better stability and comfort. Extra cusioning controls the shape, moisture and the smell of the shoes. The more cushiong the less flexibility the shoes have. Amazon
